RIPLRT principal investigator Dr. Félix E. Rivera-Mariani has been granted the academic rank of ad-honorem Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus.
The appointment recognizes more than a decade of collaborative research with UPR on airborne fungal exposure, respiratory health, and immunology, and it formalizes a partnership that already spans joint publications, conference presentations, and co-mentored graduate students.
For the Institute, the rank opens concrete opportunities:
- Student internships and research experiences for UPR trainees in biomedical science, immunology, microbiology, environmental health, and computational biology.
- Cross-institutional mentoring connecting students in Puerto Rico and South Florida.
- Deeper collaboration on projects serving underserved communities in Puerto Rico and beyond.
